An exceptional mint error
Lot 2913
Licinius I, 308-324. Follis (Bronze, 22 mm, 3.12 g), Alexandria, 315. [IMP C VAL LICIN LICI]NIVS P F AVG Laureate head of Licinius I to right. Rev. IOVI CONSER-[VATORI AVGG] / [...] / [ALE] Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding Victory on globe in his right hand and long scepter in his left; at his feet, eagle to left, holding wreath in beak. RIC 8 or 10. An exceptional mint error. Struck heavily off center and with minor deposits on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This coin is a rare example of a misplaced flan resulting in an extremely off-center strike. The visible design elements suggest it was minted in Alexandria, and the B1 bust could indicate RIC 8 or 10.
